Introduction: My Assistive Adaptive Technology Class with Dr. Cyrus

When I signed up for this Assistive Adaptive Technology course, I felt very much apprehensive because I didn’t even know the meaning of assistive adaptive technology. I just thought that I was going to learn about computer “stuff”. I am not at all computer “savvy”. Yes, I can type (only because I took Typing I & II in high school in the 70’s). I’ve taken three different types of computer classes at UOG, and I still struggle to at least be a computer “geek”.

I had my first computer class (1999) in the Mac Lab. Every computer was a Mac, and the one I had at home was a PC. I didn’t know anything about computers. I was even afraid to touch the mouse. My children were patient to teach me. I struggled to learn with a Mac at UOG and with a PC at home. My classmates went off on their own, and I became intimidated with the Mac. I ended up with a “C” grade. Up to now I still dread the Mac.

I see now that this Assistive Adaptive Technology course is not just about the computer itself. This course offers much more. . .
